<rss version="2.0"><channel><title>New Music From Vieja Trova Santiaguera on Calabash Music</title><description></description><link>http://afropopshop.org</link><item><title>Vieja Trova Santiaguera</title><description>&lt;img src='http://files.afropopshop.org/images/40005/vieja_trova_santiaguera.jpg'&gt;Vieja Trova Santiaguera is the living embodiment of a musical tradition with its roots in the 19th century. Among the five incredibly youthful members of this group are veterans of the most renowned musical groups from Santiago de Cuba, such as the Cuarteto Patria, La Estudiantina Invasora and the duet Los Compadres. Together this quintet carries with it the history of music from the eastern half of Cuba, particularly of boleros and sones. Although all were retired both from music and from their varied jobs as bricklayers, cabinetmakers, luthiers etc., they were excited by the idea of creating a new group to perform these old songs and recorded this, their self&amp;ndash;titled debut.</description><pubDate>Thu, 04 Dec 2008 17:32:50 -0600</pubDate><link>http://viejatrovasantiaguera.afropopshop.org/#album_40005</link></item><item><title>Gusto y Sabor</title><description>&lt;img src='http://files.afropopshop.org/images/39989/gusto_y_sabor.jpg'&gt;Gusto y Sabor surprised us with its obscure tunes. Boleros and guarachas dominate the repertoire. The former demonstrate an intense lyricism and belong to standard composers of the traditional ballad. They share the almost unhealthy enthusiasm of the period. The guarachas have that festive and spicy tone that characterizes them.&lt;br/&gt;&#xD;
