The original idea was that the music could be played anywhere with no need for amps or electricity. The inspiration for the lyrics were water and sanitation and the songs, partly in Portuguese, explore these pertinent themes.

The music has evolved since this first trip with each Empty Boat musician adding their personality to the complex and multi-layered sounds of the new album. Songs are tightly structured and melody led with vocals from many different voices and countries (UK, Brazil, Mozambique, Spain). The wind ensemble of accordeon, tuba, sax, bass clarinet, bassoon, recorder and penny whistle form the basis of the music, with keyboards and guitar adding colour.

“What's important is the structure” says Dean “the bell pattern and the bass drum pattern; the bass line and the melody; the pace of verse to chorus; the counterpoint of guitar and keys; the interplay of warm to cool; empty to full. The album is a musical journey. A film soundtrack.”</atom:content></atom:entry></atom:feed>
